DRIVING CHARITY IN THRAPSTON AND THE VILLAGES – VOLUNTEER ACTION
Volunteer Action is a registered charity, supporting the elderly, unwell, disadvantaged and those with disabilities through a Community Transport Scheme and a Befriending Scheme. All services are available in Thrapston and surrounding villages.
Volunteer Action relies on volunteers as both drivers and befrienders. Our staff and volunteers have worked throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to do so.
During the pandemic, a small band of stalwart drivers plus some very welcome new recruits have ensured that medical appointments could still be attended
by our members throughout the
pandemic. Over 240 people have been
taken to well over 700 appointments.
We have carried out over 130 drives for COVID-19 vaccinations alone.
Our members who are part of
the VA Befriending service are still
being supported by telephone and
a Friend-on-the Phone Scheme was
quickly developed to support any other member who was feeling isolated and
in need of telephone support. Up to 140 members were being supported during
the pandemic and the service continues
today, although numbers have dropped slightly.
We are hoping to soon return to normal operations, where we can take members to visit
friends and families and to the shops and hairdressers, etc.
