  Headteacher, where all the children and staff had entered fully into the spirit of things and then on to the Swansgate Shopping Centre in town where Marilyn had organised a stand with collection buckets – that were pleasingly very heavy. Marilyn and her colleagues said they were amazed at the public’s response and the stories that many were telling of their experiences with cancer – Crazy Hats was doing what we hoped
– it was getting people talking. We also visited Boots where staff on the tills were wearing crazy hats to raise money.
We hadn’t finished! The Oncology Department at Northampton was next. I think patients were somewhat puzzled when I walked in wearing a cap and gown! With time against us we made our way back to Kettering to the Newlands Centre where friends had been collecting. When we arrived Secretary Sue, Cyril and Lynne, another of the school’s admin staff, were doing their stint. Everybody had given so much, it was unbelievable! I would have loved to have gone over to Corby to see my brother but time – and energy – did not permit and it was getting dark.
As said; “What a day! What a privilege! What support!” I was buzzing. Somehow I knew that this would not be the first fundraiser for as I was leaving school that day a child had asked me what was next!
Pots of money and cheques were sent in very quickly and continued to do so for several weeks – our Money Man and the cashier at the hospital were kept busy and the total was constantly rising; after a couple of weeks we realised we had reached our target of
