on hand selling raffle tickets and our goods, along with other stalls. If anything, it was an emotional evening – many of the ladies unsure if they could do it, or not. Oh, they did it all right and they did it very well! The looks on their faces when they stepped on to the catwalk spoke volumes as did Linda’s and Elaine’s – who were both so relieved it had gone well – and were so proud of the models.
Other events Linda took responsibility for included the yearly Party in the Park and the Christmas Lights, both in Rushden. On top of these she organised Quiz Nights at the Bowls Club, Tractor Runs and many coach trips – the Christmas Festive Fairs at Birmingham being a firm favourite. Her whole family supported her and always willingly lent a hand at most of our events, being very much part of the overall team. Having such a hardworking and reliable person on board was the Charity’s good fortune! Thank you Linda xx
Life at the office was certainly increasing...
The Coffee and Chat and Therapy sessions were undoubtedly the biggest success but with younger members
coming on board we were concerned that younger breast
cancer patients could not always make a morning due to
work and family commitments, so we agreed to arrange for an Evening group to run on a fortnightly basis. Several of the ‘Dare to Bare’ girls organised this, first at the office but moving on to a different venue in Wellingborough – they proved to be very successful and welcomed.
Here’s what some of our ladies said about our Coffee and Chat sessions...
“I love coming to the office and can’t wait for Thursdays to be here. I love being able to chat with others going through breast cancer.”
“At the moment, while I’m going through treatment, the coffee and chat mornings are a lifeline to me”
“I know breast cancer is serious but we always seem to laugh a lot!”
“I don’t have breast cancer but I come to support my friend who does and is mentally finding it hard to cope. I know the sessions really help her.”
“The therapy sessions are so relaxing and help me so much to relax.” “I would come every morning if I could.”
“I feel comfortable in talking through my worries – we are never
judged.”
“I was very nervous when I first came but love coming now.”
“It’s lovely that we have ‘time’ with like-minded people and that we
do other things – we don’t always talk.”
“I’ve been in remission for a couple of years now but still feel I need
the support of others who understand around me.”
“I first came along to support my friend – now I’m on the Committee
and love it!”
“I don’t have breast cancer but I come to support my friend who does and is mentally finding it hard to cope. I know the sessions really help her.”
