Behind the scenes – our amazing team
There is no ‘I’ in team, but we sure are glad there is ‘u’ in our volunteers!
All our Committee Members played such a vital role in the success of Crazy Hats (some of them with us for many, many years) and deserve total recognition for their voluntary contributions. Yes, I got ‘Stan’ to highlight the traits of some of them and wish we were back in the office so that I could display them! When I presented these to the recipients the surprised look on each face was a picture – it was worth every penny spent just to hear them laughing with and at each other!
I cannot remember how they all came on board. Some joined because they had breast cancer and had attended our Coffee and Chat mornings or AGMs; others came along as a friend of a Committee Member, didn’t have breast cancer but had skills we could use and had experienced breast cancer in different ways. Some volunteered their services as ex-pupils of mine; some we ‘picked up’ and invited along whilst we were out and about – like Shirley who we met in a café and Babs who visited our stall; some had raised money for us... many reasons but every single person wanting to make a difference...
The list is incomplete for I must not forget the friends and families of these wonderful people who gave a great deal of their time too when we had big events organised and especially when we had heavy lifting to do! I’m not sexist and readily accepted (and asked for) strong pairs of hands to help! Furthermore, I must make mention of our other Therapists who all made up such an amazing TEAM, Karen Burt, Susan Fairbrass, another Heather and others who filled in and, of course we acknowledge the support of our Honorary Members:
