As Heather our Chair once said: “I foolishly thought my involvement would simply mean holding a tin for an occasional fundraising event. How wrong I was! Since then, my life has changed so much and Crazy Hats has become such an important part of my life – even getting my husband, Tom, involved too, who is proud to be an Honorary Member. It is difficult to think of life without Crazy Hats!”
Carol: “I joined with the offer of doing anything that needed doing. We all worked for one aim – to help people with breast cancer. We had a good captain but the crew were something else! We were a mixture of people who all become friends. We packed bags, wrapped things, tidied up, sold things, made tea, laughed, joked, moaned, sang and tried to put the world to rights. It was great and I always hoped Glennis would need us for a very long time – she couldn’t get rid of us – we loved it!”.
Janet: “I joined Crazy Hats after losing two close friends to breast cancer. My sister was then diagnosed and then my daughter. The support I had from Crazy Hats sustained me through a very difficult time and now I feel privileged to have been part of such a worthwhile charity that did so much to help our local hospitals.”
Pat: “I had breast cancer twice and became involved with Crazy Hats after I took part in one of their Walks, attended their first AGM and was invited to join the Supporter’s Committee – later to become a Trustee. I knew Glennis from table tennis. I will always remember when we entered a float in the Wellingborough Carnival and was especially pleased to represent the Charity in Croyland Park where we set up a stall. All went well until the wind got up and our gazebo took off! We still managed to make over £200. After that I had the confidence, along with other volunteers, to organise fundraisers of my own. One I enjoyed very much – and for many years – was at Chamberlain’s Garden Centre (Hillside Nurseries) Open Days in Finedon where we sold teas, coffees and cakes (all donated). It was so special to see how people gratefully supported the charity and gave generously. My friends now call me
