Oh gosh! There is still so much more I want to tell you but will soon be running out of space. I will have to be less ‘wordy’ from now on – even though I know every event we, or others did deserves a full-length account. One more before I ‘slow up’...
The 2009 Wellingborough Carnival!!
Where we entered a Crazy Hats float!!! Something else I had always wanted to do with my children at school but never had the opportunity. Now we had – with adults!!
We chose the Madhatter’s Tea Party as our theme,
with Committee Members, Trustees and our President
all paying to hire their costumes ... (we had to look
the part!) Dr Matthew was the King of Hearts; Heather,
the Queen of Hearts, Angelina, the White Rabbit,
Janet ‘P’, Alice; Anne and Elena, Tweedle Dum and
Tweedle Dee; Marilyn, the Duchess, Janet ‘F’, the
March Hare; Julia, the Dormouse and myself as the
‘Mad Hatter’. Not all the characters were featured
but Marilyn’s daughter – Sophie – heavily pregnant –
and her friend dressed as playing cards, as did other
volunteers, who walked alongside our lorry that had
been loaned to us and driven by ‘Bill’ who helped us
at our Walks. For weeks beforehand we got together
and made everything to decorate the back of the lorry,
hiring a banqueting table and chairs and making “ giant cups and saucers, plates, knives and forks and dyeing bras pink
to use as bunting. Angelina made two amazing thrones for Dr Matthew and Heather, an oversized teapot and clock and printed out banners and posters to say who we were – we even begged and borrowed greenery from a home outlet to set our party scene off.
Getting ready at the office on the morning of the Carnival was so much fun!!! The lorry looked stunning and as we proudly set off, dressed in our superb costumes, we enjoyed every moment as we were driven round the streets of Wellingborough! We were easily recognisable and the crowds who had gathered along the route cheered and cheered us! It was very humbling.
Poor Jo, our camera expert must have run miles that day, trying to capture the fun we were all having and the responses from the public and produced yet another wonderful keepsake DVD. Phil, was on stage with us, giving a running commentary about the work we did and geeing up the crowds. It was utterly amazing and well-worth all the hard work – the icing on the cake being when it was announced we had won the best float award!!
Right... in summing this section up, what else did we do? I have purposely included a lot of photographs!
