after disagreeing about something, but these moments were short lived as very often, one of us would break the silence by a ‘look’ – a grin – and sometimes a rude word – always said in jest. We did agree that I was an optimist and that you were a pessimist though – that’s probably why our friendship worked.
With you being a widow, having lost John, your husband, a few years before I knew you, I always respected the fact that you had daughters and grandchildren and a loving wider family and friends; we didn’t always live in each other’s

Both of our families must have thought us ‘crazy’ with all that we got up to but it didn’t stop us – and how lovely it was that both families accepted our crazy ways – well, we hoped they did! I was soon made to feel a part of your family and really enjoyed the times when I was invited to your family get-togethers on special occasions such as Christmas and birthdays – and your Sunday home-cooked lunches when you would be ‘stressed out’ getting everything ready before we all sat round your table, everyone talking at once – you loved those days – and your Yorkshire puddings were to die for! It was so clear what your family meant to you and I truly thank them for putting up with me!

“Say, are you two an item?”
Well! If you’d had a cup of tea in your hand the whole room would have been splattered, such was your reaction! We both looked at each other and roared with laughter!
“No,” you calmly replied, “Just very good friends.”
Mum, being blind, couldn’t see our faces and obviously didn’t
