understand the question being asked...
“What did she say? What did she mean?” We explained
as best we could...
“Ooh, I say!” said Mum. An expression she used a lot. But you didn’t stop there for next you came out with a
mischievous...
“But we have slept together...”
Oh, Marilyn, that was you all over! Your sense of
humour was something else!
The carer left – very bemused, I would imagine – and
we went on to explain to Mum about the time we did sleep
together – when we stayed at your daughter’s house in
Catterick, out of necessity, sleeping on a very hard futon “ at the bottom of Sarah’s bed, sharing a single duvet and
Max, her black Labrador, comfortably lying between us ...
Another “Ooh, I say!” from Mum!
Before all the images of my dream disappear – let me bring some more to mind...
Wherever you are I hope they will make you smile for, as I write them I am smiling (and shedding a few tears) – we are back together again, reliving the good times.
Do you remember...
Our first trip to France? We were literally thrown together weren’t we? You were nervous about spending time away with your
‘Deputy Head’. That was never a concern with me.
I had got to know you in the classroom and in the
staffroom – I knew we were going to have a great
adventure that weekend – and we did!
Shortly after our French experience, we were in Yorkshire, in a shopping precinct – somewhere – when we espied a photo booth.
“Come on,” I said, “Let’s have our photos taken.” “Oh, no Glennis,” “We can’t.”
Much to your disgust, I yanked you into the booth
and sat myself on the little round seat, squashed up against the wall to give you enough room to sit down. Drawing the curtain we were already laughing, trying to wind the seat up and down to comfortably park our two big bottoms on it – and to work out our different heights, for all we could see in the glass panel was the top of my head – you being much taller. Unbeknown to me, you had put a £1.00 coin into the slot.
Suddenly an unpleasant smell became apparent. I looked at you...
Wherever you are I hope they will make you smile”
.
  “It wasn’t me!” you said.
