Writing this book has been a surreal process and I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped me with it and for making me the person I am today; grateful to everyone who features ‘somewhere’ in it and grateful to those who are not – but are equally valued.

Some say it is common practice to start with your Mum and Dad and family – your closest loved ones. They are up there at the top, of course, but on this occasion I have to say how indebted I am to my very best friend, Marilyn, for a wonderful twenty nine years of an equally great friendship, getting up to all kinds of mischief and for being such a brilliant ‘soul mate’. How I wish she could have read this.

Now to Mum and Dad, my sisters and brother, my nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and my entire family who accepted ‘Tubby’s’ crazy ways and supported me through all the highs and lows of my life and were, and are, always there for me.

Thank you to Marilyn’s family for their love and friendship and support with Crazy Hats – it has been wonderful to watch then all grow and mature and to be ‘Auntie Glennis’ to her five grandchildren. Marilyn so loved you all. A lovely drawing that Megan drew of her family. She was twelve at the time. I love it! The innocence of youth – you all look so thin!
