24525578 Cpl Colin Arthur HARDWICK died on 21 March 2020 aged 65. Colin served with served E Coy 3 WFR during the 80’s and 90’s and was awarded the long service medal.
HARPER
23700992 LCpl John Desmond HARPER, of Chesterfield, died on 25 August 2020 aged 81. Des enlisted into the 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters on 28 February 1959 and served in Malaya and Singapore with MMG Platoon, then with Recce Platoon in NI, Libya, and Cyprus before leaving on 27 February 1965.
HESLOP
WO2 Brett Heslop, who served with the Cheshire Regiment between 1928 and 2004, died 5 November 2020.
HIDER
Mr T (Joe) J Hider, former 1st Bn of the Cheshire Regiment, died 2 August 2020.
HITCHEN
Mr Thomas Hitchen of the Cheshire Regimental Association died aged 102.
HOLLAND
19039709 Cpl (possibly Sgt) Ernest William HOLLAND of Colchester, Essex, died on 8 July 2020 aged 90. Ernest transferred to the 1st Bn, The Sherwood Foresters from the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment on 25 October 1947 and served in the UK, Malaya and Germany. He discharged from the Army on 22 June 1973.

HORTON
23951162 CSgt Bernard ‘Bernie’ Montgomery HORTON died on 23 November 2020 aged 76. Bernie enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment at Wolverhampton on 22
November 1962 and following training
at the Prince of Wales Division Depot he served in UK, BAOR, Gibraltar, Tobruk
and Northern Ireland and passed courses
in Driving, Unit Projectionist, JNCO Skill
at Arms, Pln Sgts Course. After 22 years service, Bernie ended his military career with 3 WFR on 24 November 1984. He held the GSM with NI clasp.
HOWARD
Mr J Howard of the Cheshire Regimental Association died on 8 April 2020.
HUCKVALE
23445136 Pte John Dennis HUCKVALE of Coventry died on 5 September 2020 aged 83. ‘Dennis’ enlisted into the Sherwood Foresters in May 1958 and served in Malaya and Singapore before he was discharged in
1960. He was awarded the GSM (Malaya) and the Malaysian Service Medal.
HUMPHREYS
Charles Humphreys served with B Company, 1st Battalion, The North Staffordshire Regiment in Hong Kong and Minden. He was a stoic man and once whilst on parade, his best mate fainted behind him and in
the process stabbed Charles in the back of his leg with his bayonet. He is succeeded by his wife Kathleen, son Richard and the remainder of their family. In 1956 he was present at the two hundredth anniversary
of the raising of The North Staffordshire Regiment. His funeral took place on the one hundredth anniversary of the burial of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey. The selection of that individual was made by Brigadier General Wyatt, late of The North Staffordshire Regiment.
IRONMONGER
Mr Ray Ironmonger, of both the Staffordshire Regiment and the 1st Bn Cheshire Regiment, died on 2 April 2020.
JACKSON
Andrew Jackson joined 1st Battalion, The Staffordshire Regiment in Dover in 1970. He served in Sharjah, an emergency tour in North Armagh in 1972, Osnabruck in the mechanised role; plus,
the Derry and Belfast tours of 1974 & 1976 respectively. In 1977, the STAFFORDS were in Colchester and were spearheaded out
to Belize to counter a perceived invasion threat. He did various courses and, in the process, worked his way up the promotion ladder. He did the eighteen-month tour in Derry between 1979 and 81 and ended
his service in the more relaxed posting of Gibraltar. After his service, he worked in the building trade for a while, but eventually had to give it up due to ill health. He is survived by his son Samuel and daughters Abigail, Mia and Alicia and their families.
JOHNSON
Roy Johnson was born in 1931. He began National Service with the RASC and was posted to Singapore. He was posted to 1st Battalion, The South Staffordshire Regiment in Hong Kong, as they were short of drivers. He rebadged and went to Ballykinler, Northern Ireland with them. After his service he became an HGV driver and he married his wife, Elaine, a marriage lasting sixty-five years. He moved to Wales, but in retirement moved back to Staffordshire. He is survived by his daughters Carol and Diana.
KLEIN
Major Chris Klein died from a heart attack at home on 18 August 2020 at the age of 61. He was commissioned in the Staffordshire Regiment in 1980 when the 1st Battalion was in Londonderry.
He commanded 1 Platoon and then
B Company as Second-in-Command. Following promotion to captain in 1984 he commanded the Mortar Platoon. In late 1985 he was Intelligence Officer and then Operations Officer. In 1987 he transferred to the Royal Army Pay Corps and was Paymaster 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and then on the staff of HQ 1 (BR) Corps before retiring from the Army in 1993. After the Army he served as a trustee on the Regimental Council and the Museum, the latter for 25 years. Chris married Lorna in 1980 and they had six children.
JOLLY
24252201 Pte Philip S JOLLY died in August 2020 aged 68. Philip served with 1 WFR from 1969 until he was discharged on 8 August 1975.
JONES
Mrs Mo JONES, wife of Arthur Jones, and Worcester branch supporter and fund raiser, died on 12 September 2020
KENNY
Mr M Kenny of the Cheshire Regimental Association died on 24 April 2020.
KING
24279496 Private Barry Michael KING died on 25 December aged 64. Barry joined 1 WFR on 26 September 1975 and served
in NI, where he was wounded in a bomb explosion at Marcus Square, Newry, and Belize with Sp Coy (Mort Platoon). He was discharged on 25 June 1975.
KLEIN
Chris Klein, of the Staffordshire Regiment, died on 18 August 2020. He was a museum trustee for 25 years.
LAINSBURY
23702049 CSgt William ‘Billy’ F LAINSBURY died in April 2020 aged 79. Billy enlisted on 7 May 1959 and served
in 1st Bn The Worcestershire Regiment in Minden, Gibraltar and Tobruk before being posted as a Sgt recruiter in Birmingham
in 1968. On joining 1 WFR he served in
N Ireland and spent his last two years before discharge, in 1977, as a QPSI with 1 MERCIAN (V)
LAIRD
Robin Laird, of the Staffordshire Regiment, died in 2020. He served with the STAFFORDS in Berlin and the Gulf from 1968 – 1971.
LEVEY
Brigadier John Gilbert Levey died on 1 December 2018. Born in 1930, he began Army life with National Service. He was later selected for officer training and passed through Mons
Officer Cadet School to be commissioned in the North Staffordshire Regiment (The
