then moved to command the Machine Gun Platoon. In 1965 he commanded 1 STAFFORDS D Company, then one of the rifle companies. His next staff appointment was to Headquarters Far East Land Forces in Singapore as Deputy Assistant Military Secretary. In 1969 he returned to
1 STAFFORDS as Second-in-Command. On promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, he attended the Joint Services Staff College in 1971 before returning to the 1st Battalion
to assume command. He was later posted to Headquarters Prince of Wales’s Division on promotion to Deputy Commander 8 Infantry Brigade 1976. In September 1977 he went to the Directorate of Army Training in the Ministry of Defence before promotion to brigadier for his final appointment as Divisional Brigadier Headquarters Prince of Wales’s Division in March 1980. He retired from the Army in May 1983. In retirement he chaired the ‘Save Our Staffords’ campaign in the early 1990s. John is survived by
his wife Jackie and their three children – Henrietta, Paula and Simon..
LEVEY
Jacqui Levey, wife of Brigadier Levey, died in December 2020.
LOACH
Harold Loach enlisted into 1st Battalion, The South Staffordshire Regiment in August 1946 and served with them until May 1956. His family have written about his time in Hong Kong in
1949 – 50. However, it is highly likely that he served in Ballykinler, Lichfield, the Canal Zone and the Cyprus emergency. We have no further details, except that he is survived by his son Martin and daughter Debbie.
MACRO
14496131 Pte Norman MACRO died on 11 April 2020 aged 94. Norman enlisted in 1943 with the General Service Corp and later transferred into The Sherwood Foresters, serving
across Europe and Palestine. In December 1944 he transferred to the Worcestershire Regiment.
MARTIN
Mary Martin, wife of Sgt ’Peg’ Martin of the Worcestershire Regiment died IN 2020.
MASSEY
Alan Massey of the Stockport Branch of the Cheshire Regimental Association died 8 November 2020.
MATTISON
Ron Mattison was born on 15 April 1926 and we believe that he enlisted into his
local regiment, The South Staffordshire Regiment in 1944. After the disbandment of 59 Division, he was
posted to another regiment and fought
in the North West Europe theatre in 1944 right through to Victory in Europe Day in May 1945. In his later life, Ron used to visit schools with other WW2 veterans and tell them about his experiences. In his last few years, Ron’s status was enhanced because he was one of our last WW2 veterans. His funeral took place on 4th June 2020 and our sincere condolences go to his wife Thelma and all their family.
MCCORMACK
Robert McCormack of the 1st Bn Cheshire Regiment died on 5 November 2020.
MIDDLETON
24811812 Pte Ian ‘Duke’ MIDDLETON died on 15 December 2020 aged 60. Ian served with E Coy 3 WFR between 1987-1989 as well as time with the RAMC. Ian had been a key member of the WFRA Worksop branch and, as the reserve standard bearer carried out many duties at various ceremonies, memorials and funerals and such was his commitment that in 2018 he was awarded the WFRA Merit Award for his services to the Association.
MOLLOY
Mr John Joseph Molloy of HQ Coy, 1st Bn the Cheshire Regiment, died on 11 June 2020, aged 89. He served during the Suez Canal Zone, 1953.
MORGAN
Dennis Morgan was born on 21 April 1937. He served with 1st Battalion, The South Staffordshire Regiment in the Cyprus emergency between 1955 – 57. Dennis worked as an engineer for Walsall Council after he left the Army. He joined Hednesford Branch of The Staffordshire Regiment Association and attended many of their functions and parades. Tragically, he lost his son in 1984 and his wife Doris died in 1984, so he is succeeded by his daughter Debbie.
NEWBOLD
24049042 LCpl Frederick C NEWBOLD died on 19 November 2020 aged 73. Fred enlisted in 1965 and served with C Coy 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters in Colchester, Munster and
Minden. He transferred to The Devon and Dorset Regiment in 1970 and left the army in 1977.
NICHOLSON
Pte Raymond NICKOLSON died on 25 July 2020 aged 82. Raymond was a National Service soldier who served with the 1st
Bn The Sherwood Foresters. He served in Malaya, N Ireland and the UK.
OWEN
23450553 Mr KM Owen of the Cheshire Regiment died on 1 March 2020.
PAYNE
Mr Brian Payne of the Cheshire Regimental Association died on 10 April 2020.
PEARSON
24276962 Roy W PEARSON of Dudley, West Midlands died on 12 April 2020. Roy enlisted into 1 WFR in the 1970’s and was discharged on 31 May 1978.
PLIMMER
Michael Plimmer was a National Serviceman who served with 1st Battalion, The North Staffordshire Regiment. After he completed his service, he promptly joined the Territorial Army, so he could continue to serve his country and his community, in an active capacity. In 1975 he joined The Staffordshire Regiment Association, after he lost his wife. His funeral took place on 23 October 2020 and the cortege paused outside the King’s Head public house in Lichfield, so members of the Regimental Association could pay their respects. He is succeeded by his two daughters.

PRICE
Mr W G Price of the Stockport Branch, Cheshire Regimental Association, died 1 June 2020.
RAWENG
Datuk Awang Anak RAWENG GC of Sarawak, Malaysia died on 18 September 2020 aged 91. Dutak was one of many Iban trackers employed by the army during the Malaya
Emergency. In April 1951 two sections of
D Coy 1st Bn The Worcestershire Regiment were in the jungle when the leading section came under heavy automatic fire, killing
Pte N Dykes and Cpl B Stanton and wounding Raweng, Ptes G Hughes and W Payne. In the meantime the other section, led by 2Lt Morris (RAOC attached), tried
to outflank the bandits but he was shot dead. The remaining members of the first section took cover off the track except Hughes who was unable to move. As the bandits renewed their attack on the leading section Raweng, though wounded in the thigh, exposed himself to drag Hughes under cover, took his rifle and engaged the bandits who returned fire and wounded him in the elbow. As they continued to advance Raweng tool a grenade from one of the wounded, withdrew the pin and held it up to keep them at bay until reinforcements arrived. He was later awarded the George
