Scottish Branch Golfers - 2017
Scottish Branch Golf Trophies
The reunion commenced as normal on a sunny Friday morning at the Green Hotel Clubhouse with Bacon Rolls and Coffee; seventeen gol ng hopefuls lined up to compete for any of the ve Scottish Branch Trophies ercely contested each year. As “par for course” (no pun intended) there were some really “iffy” handicaps submitted, but we were all hopeful that at least one of the trophies would remain “North of the Border”; at least I was until the back-nine, actually it was more like the 3rd Hole. The weather Gods were once again on our side and after the customary group photograph, the three Lady Golfers (Anne Jennings, Mary Rutherford and Pat McNeish) took to the 1st Tee on the Montgomery Course
The Trophies this year were won by:
• Ladies Winner - Mrs Anne Jennings.
• Open Winner - Maj (Retd) John Jennings.
• Stapleford Winner - Maj (Retd) John Jennings.
• Scratch Winner - Lt Col (SMAA) Tom Scarr.
• Honest John Trophy – Maj (Retd) John Jennings.
Clearly the Jennings “Clan” have been practicing hard over the past year and tragically with the assistance of the SMAA all the trophies headed south. A bit like my Golf!
This year’s Scottish Gathering returned to the well-proven formula of Golf at Kinross, followed by an informal Social Evening at the
Dancers performing their latest routine
Harry Grif ths, Ted Dixon and Ivor Tulloch with family & friends
Windelstrae Hotel for an opportunity to “meet and greet” and catch up on what everyone’s been getting up to for the past year(s). With just over 30 turning up for the Friday evening, the relaxed and informal night was capped by a rare “live” performance by the multi-talented Mike Mooney. His blend of traditional Scottish ballads and a smidgen of Elvis was excellent – not too sure about the “Way to Amarillo”, especially when accompanied through the chorus by the audience (think we’ll leave it to Tony Christy or even Peter Kay!).
