Iwrite this article at 1st Battalion Scots Guards. It has been an incredibly busy year within the regiment due to the operational tempo and changeover of several key personalities.
January saw the Battalion coming out of their high readiness phase and into their training year. The pace of life has been frantic; in six
Rehab Facilities
short months the Battalion has had Company’s spread all over the world. 2017 will be another busy year with Op TEMPERER straight after Easter leave which leads immediately into Exercise Wessex Storm in the following months.
Away from busy Battalion life the cardiovascular, strength and conditioning room has undergone a huge upgrade in physical training equipment to enhance the facilities on offer for the large number of personnel within the Unit. The upgrade has dramatically improved the rehabilitation, strength and conditioning training within the unit by creating fully equipped training areas that simply didn’t exist.
The challenge now is to have continued success in qualifying AAPTI’s and further develop those instructors with the potential and will to attend RAPTC selection
Sport continues to be at the forefront of the Battalions ethos with both the Rugby and Football teams competing in the premier league.
As the year continues I look forward to the challenges that the Battalion is committed to in a unit that is truly committed to sport, AT, health and tness.

The 1st Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment (1YORKS) are based in Battlesbury Barracks, Warminster. 1 YORKS are an armoured infantry unit and have a great work/life balance. Although I have only been here for a short time, I have found the unit and Mess accommodating and helpful.
The Battalion has been busy with a constant ow of exercises and sport. Lots of role speci c training with Warriors, Bulldogs and Panther vehicles taking up most of the year.
1 YORKS have excelled in sport yet again this year even with the busy 12X programme. The rugby team 1st XV had a great season and made it through to the Army Premiership Cup Final for the rst time in 20 years, which unfortunately ended with the team nishing runners up in a well fought game against 12 Regiment RA. The week after the Hindostan XV played in the Championship Cup Final and came out victorious with a narrow win over the Pilgrims 15-10. With the teams performing so well it has led to 5 players being selected for Army Rugby.
The football team were also a success. Having been knocked out of the Divisional Cup Semi Final by the eventual winners 11 Signal Regiment, the team went on to claim the Infantry Cup winning 6-2 against 1 RRF. The team were then in action in the Army Challenge Cup Final against 30 Signal Regiment and came out victorious with a last gasp winner in the ninety- rst minute and were crowned champions winning 3-2. It goes without saying that without the backing from the CO and all those from around the Battalion the success of all sports teams would have been very different.
On a personal note the RAPTC football has been a big focal point this year and was topped off with an amazing tour of Thailand in which the RAPTC won all three games. It was also a great end to the season having picked up “Players Player” of the season.
The Battalion now looks forward to BATUS Canada which is not a new challenge for those here at 1 YORKS.
