WO1 (SMI) RJP Lowe RAPTC
After 4 years in the Middle East it was with great pride that I returned to the RAPTC as SMI Health at HQ 1 (UK) Div on a 2 year FTRS FC contract.
The role of SMI Health is new and as such developing continually. The main aim is to reduce Muscular Skeletal Injuries and promote Health. To achieve this, a great deal of in uence is required to educate and update all on current methods of safe and ef cient training, and how best to look after our health.
Maj (MAA) Neville HQ 1 Div GOC Commendation
Constantly brie ng on health committee meetings, attending and advising on health fairs and whenever possible delivering presentations on the bene ts of healthy living and intelligent tness training seems to be having an impact. In the future more training for AAPTIs will be planned to promote safe and sensible training.
One of the new initiatives within Health Promotion is the Defence Occupational Fitness Courses. In order to pull together all the great ideas and the most up-to-date scienti c research these courses are now increasing in numbers as instructors are trained. Visiting many of these courses I have seen rst-hand their bene t, each course is validated by means of feedback and statistics and, in time, the success of these courses can be proven by the number of service personnel who have made life long changes to their health and lifestyle.
