It was clear from the off that the next two years would be some of the best of my career and in a unit that were heavily invested in the management and care of their attached arms, it was obvious
that I would get the support and with a top corridor that were all very t (many in the 300 club), it was also very apparent that this was a unit that took their tness very seriously. Additionally, the unit spend a lot of time away, often deploying in small groups/ specialist teams and in many cases to some fantastic theatres/ locations around the globe.
For anyone looking to come to 3DSR, at rst glance the gym does not look very appealing but I would suggest that you don’t judge its ability to provide and deliver by its initial appearance. The facility here in Bulford provides a service to around 2000 soldiers and dependents from; 3 Div HQ, 4MI Bn, 3RMP, 12X, 158 Provo Coy and SIB. The facility may not be shiny and new, but it does have that special something that has soldiers ocking through the doors on a daily basis with the kit and equipment currently on offer far better than that found in most military gyms. It has facilitated the
unit’s sporting prowess, across a broad range of activities and has aided the unit to lay on all kinds of Adventurous Training packages.
I have been in my element and thoroughly enjoyed my time whilst managing the gymnasium in Bulford for the last two years. The Unit love to compete and do so at almost every event that they have the opportunity to do so. They also lay on two huge internal events per annum; the Kiwi Trophy (14 Mile March and Shoot Competition) and the Kiwi Blitz (similar to the old Super Teams event for those old enough to remember). With a whole host of tness equipment at your ngertips, an old building with state-of- the-art technology in use, including the new My Zone Technology, any RAPTCI will enjoy the time they spend here at 3DSR.
Although my time has come to an end and like many of us, we must move on to pastures new, I look forward to my new post as the Chief Instructor at the AT Wing in Sennybridge but say a fond farewell to all who have made my stay in Bulford a very warm one.
