Could you aid a charity? Adult Volunteers needed in Thrapston
St John Ambulance, the nation’s leading first aid charity, is appealing for more adult volunteers to join its unit in Thrapston.
The charity’s many volunteers around
the country learn lifesaving skills so that
they can be the difference between life and death, delivering first aid at events and in the community to people who need it. Events covered by the Thrapston volunteers include Thrapston Charter Fair, Northampton Saints Rugby and the Greenbelt Festival.
First Aiders training at Thrapston will be taught skills ranging from treating cuts and sprains to dealing with choking and cardiac arrest and will after only a few months be allowed to work at events assisting others. The volunteers meet once a week on Tuesdays on Church Walk and it is at these meetings that additional training is given.
In time, there are also other opportunities
within St John Ambulance to improve skills and potentially become an Advanced First Aider or part of an ambulance crew.
The charity asks for a minimum of 60 hours of service a year from its first aiders, but many volunteers give up hundreds of hours each year to help others.
Knowing how to save a life is an incredible feeling. If this appeals to you and you are interested in joining a team of enthusiastic, community-focused life savers please visit the Volunteering section of the St John Ambulance website – www.sja.org.uk.
