Centenary Stone Unveiling
08 Sept 2021 Sgt G Shaw
On the 8th September 2021 I had the privilege of attending the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) in Lichfield for the Centenary Event of the RADC.
The day comprised of the unveiling of the memorial stone by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, buffet lunch and all ranks function in the evening all held at the NMA.
The day itself was glorious and a complete contrast to Kinloss where I had flown down from for the event the day before.
Following the memorial stone unveiling and service we attended
the buffet lunch and we had the opportunity to meet and talk to
HRH and catch up will fellow RADC members and Ex members. Having met HRH at Lisburn Barracks (NI) during my first year in the Corps it was nice to see her again.
With a tidy up and costume
change we were ready for the all ranks function. We were greeted with champagne on arrival and served a lovely three course meal before the lights were dropped and the disco began. The shapes that were pulled on the dance floor were out of this world and some should never be seen again.
Overall, it was a fantastic occasion making me proud to be in the Corps. It recognised the service of all who served in the AD Corps and RADC over the past 100 years and years to come and a great meet up with old friends.
Can’t wait until the next event.

While on leave in the UK from far flung BATUS, I had the privilege of attending the RADC Memorial Stone dedication service with my wife and many of you. It was a lovely sunny day and we enjoyed our first visit to the National Memorial Arboretum.
Sgt Gooding-Edgehill and I were assigned as seating attendants. We arrived early at the site of the RADC Memorial Stone and ensured the seats were correctly positioned and appropriately labelled for the VIP guests. While standing guard over the seats we were able to listen in on the Forces News interview with our CDO(A), Col Davies. As the VIP guests arrived, we helped guide them to their seats.
The dedication service was a fitting tribute to honour and celebrate all who have served and continue to serve in the RADC. It was wonderful to have our Colonel-in-Chief, HRH the Duchess of Gloucester attend the event and unveil the Memorial Stone. My single concern during the dedication service was that the gentle gusts of wind would lift the cover from the stone and unveil it too early before HRH had the opportunity to do so. Fortunately, a few small stones we had placed to weigh down the cover managed to keep it in place.
dinner in the evening provided a great opportunity to catch up with past friends and colleagues and enjoy spending some time together for the first time in a long time.
Both the buffet after the event and the
