WO2 (QMSI) I Lester receiving his Award from HRH
Year. As a winner I was forwarded as the Army candidate for the UK Armed Forces Official of the year which was held at the RAF Club in Piccadilly, London on 20 Mar 19. A great day with a superb lunch and meeting HRH Princess Royal who presented the prizes. And who would have thought it, I won....
This basketball season was much like the last with some great Division one appointments, during the Christmas break, I went to Manchester to referee in a tournament dedicated to a Player who died tragically in a car crash a few years ago. The tournament happens between Christmas and New Year and is a great tournament full of the UK finest U18 players as well as international teams too. My performance here was rewarded with the Final, which turned out to be a great game. February saw me appointed to the Senior National Trophy Final held at UEL Sports Dock in London. This was a great game between two of the top teams in the country.

WO2 Marshall delivering PES trg in Cyprus
Basketball aside it’s been a busy year on the work front with the main topics of APTS and PES taking up most of our time. However, all positive changes for the RAPTC. Web pages are being constantly updated as we receive new PES information, which at one stage seemed to be going through daily changes. Now things have settled down a bit, it is back on to the primary role which is the external validation of our courses ensuring that elements taught and delivered are adequately preparing individuals for their role.

Year two in the role!.......still no change regards the workload with ExVal and Programme THOR. However, the new PES has now landed in my inbox. As part of the Ground Close Combat (GCC) project team, and in conjunction with the University of Chichester (UoC), I have been heavily involved with the impact analysis, which consisted of delivering the Role Fitness Test Soldier (RFT (S)) to GCC Units in the UK and Germany (Lots of travel!). My main aim was firstly, to deliver the testing battery for the UoC to obtain tangible data in the form of test standards. Secondly, and more importantly was to work out how the RFT (S) would be implemented for the RAPTC to deliver regards, sequencing of Representative Military Tasks, resources required, manpower and overall timing for completion of the RFT (S). As a subsequent fallout from the impact analysis I was responsible for heading up the task of upskilling RAPTCIs on ‘Train the Trainer’ courses at the ASPT. In addition to the trainer courses at the ASPT, I also had the opportunity to deliver to the contingent in Cyprus as well as the PTI Technical Deficit Training Course as a TE.
I have continued my role as RAPTC Martial Arts secretary and have organised a successful training camp to Malaga, Spain for 18/19 for the team of 8 RAPTCIs. Plans are in now in motion for the RAPTC Martial Arts team to travel and compete in New York for the touring year 19/20. I was also asked to be representative for HQ RAPTC and attend an outstanding battlefield tour to Salamanca, Spain which covered the Peninsula wars. Highlight of the year by far was becoming a father to my daughter, then being selected to step up as acting WO2 within the department and subsequent success for the SSgt to WO2 board.

With the development of the APTS Management Tool I was under no illusion a posting to HQ RAPTC TDT would be on the horizon, so when the opportunity arose, I felt that this was the right path for me to further develop my skills and knowledge within the Corps. After a lengthy discussion with my spouse Natalie who is also serving, we decided that it was the right thing to do.
Before starting on 24 Sept 18, I was already loaded onto the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) Courses by WO2 (QMSI) Marshall so I could hit the ground running on my arrival. The DSAT courses are very different to what we know
