  REGIONAL REHABILITATION UNIT (RRU) COSFORD
WO2 (QMSI) D Slade-Jones RAPTC Regional Trade Specialist Advisor (NIWW)
The previous six months have seen a period of transition and change at RRU Cosford, with more still to come as the Unit prepares for another busy year providing rehabilitation inpatient courses. Cosford said farewell to SSgt Andy Brown in July, posted to 30 Signal Regt Nuneaton, and to Sgt Jay Jallow posted to the Battle Back Centre Lilleshall. Andy and Jay depart with the gratitude of the RRU for their excellent contributions to the rehab provision, and more importantly leaving the place in a condition that makes
life extremely easy for their incoming replacements!
Sgt (SI) Vinnie Francis posted from Battle Back Centre Lilleshall, and Sgt (SI) Richie Edwards who joins the team from JSSERI having completed the ERI training course in December 2018. Both arrived in the first week of January to join an experienced team of two Sports Medicine doctors, four physios, OC RRU Major Elaine Radcliffe and WO2 QMSI Daryl Slade-Jones.
Introductions over and the RRU moved back into ‘rehab mode’ with a total of twenty-four inpatient courses per year, the breakdown comprised of twelve lower limbs, ten spines and two upper quadrant admissions loaded to a capacity of fifteen patients each. These courses run for three weeks each and when combined with the RRU’s commitment to MIAC, Podiatry clinics and wider audit and research responsibilities make for a fast paced and stimulating working environment.
The RRU also allows for further research and best practice development, and currently has on going audits within the areas of teaching practice aimed at engaging with different learning styles for maximum group effect when delivering rehab theory, and sleep and recovery best practice, a fast-emerging field in sports science.
The RRU will absorb further change in the coming year, as we bid farewell to WO2 QMSI Daryl Slade Jones, moving on promotion to WO1 to take up the role of TSA at Stanford Hall. Also leaving the Team will be the OC Maj Elaine Radcliffe, replaced by the incoming Maj Andy Wareham. RRU Cosford looks forward to another period of providing gold standard rehabilitation while maintaining a team ethos that makes it a special place to either work or rehabilitate from injury.
