The Royal Lancers were tested in 3 different tasks; deployment on Operation TOSCA 28 (Mar – Oct 18) Cyprus, BATUS exercise and Rear Operation Group. Each commitment had its challenges to say the least, however the Lancer spirit prevailed to complete each task in a professional and efficient manner.
Operation TOSCA 28, Cyprus. The exchange of ‘north of the wall’ conditions for the warm climate and top-up of Vitamin D was welcomed by all. Operation BRONZE ADONIS, standby GO!
I was fortunate enough to conduct this tour in 2003 with J Sidi Rezegh Battery, 3 RHA. “Then, Gunner Burnell” I took a trip down memory lane to Maple House and visit what was once my home for 6 months. The Royal Lancers quickly adapted to their new environment and established an excellent repour with locals and chain of command. This was supported by winning the United Nations Force Commanders Challenge 2018 (multinational military event).
The island provides an excellent array of opportunities whether they be physically challenging or healing the mind, body and spirit. The unit participated in anything and everything the island had to offer.
Lance Guard Anzac Parade
The TOSCA Regimental Adventurous Training Team (TRATT) provided challenging outdoor training for personnel in specific activities that incorporates controlled exposure to risk, in developing: leadership; teamwork; physical fitness; moral and physical courage; as well as other personal attributes and skills that are vital to the delivery of operational capability. The team were exceptional in their delivery and provided foundation courses in mountain biking and rock climbing.
