In July 2018, 36 Engineer Regiment deployed on Op TRENTON 5 as the UK Engineer Task Force to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. The UKTF consisted of 300 soldiers and officers
drawn from different cap badges, with the Military Construction Force (MCF) drawn from 20 Field Squadron and commanded by CO 36 Engr Regt. The UKTF supported the peace keeping UN Mission in South Sudan. The UKTF was laid down over three locations Bentiu Engineer Group (BEG), Malakal Engineer Group (MEG) and a Theatre Enabling Group (TEG) in Juba. The Task Force HQ was co-located in Malakal with the MEG.
The Regiment continues to maintain the winning spirit, team cohesion, discipline and leadership of our fighting power through a wide range of sporting events. The Regiment supported the RE Games in Kinloss & the QGE contributed a full squad of football players to the Nepal Cup in June and July respectively. During the RE games; the Regiment’s Volleyball and Squash teams both achieved the first-place. In addition, there was a notable individual sporting success; Spr Soman Gurung from 70 Gurkha Field Squadron achieved 2nd place in European Powerlifting Competition held in Ireland.
