Matthew Evans himself who, was not only a fantastic role model to the young Guardsmen, but a great help in making the week run smoothly for the management team.
On returning from Summer Leave, there was a taster of what is to come for the Battalion in the next few years as we transition to 11 Brigade and the men finally get to hand in their Home Service Clothing. In September No 2 Company travelled to Kenya to support 1st Battalion Irish Guards on Ex ASKARI STORM. Again, using the Army Physical Training System as a platform, we were able to prepare them with limited time to fulfil their requirement. This was replicated with Support Company’s pre-deployment training prior to a 3-month stint in the Falklands over Christmas.
The reduction in man power nicely led to a timely reduction in Guard Mounts. This has allowed Sport to be rejuvenated across
the Unit. Success in the 2018 HQ LONDIST GOC’s Cup was followed up with positive results for the Cross-Country, Golf, Football and BAWF
The transition to 11 Brigade will, I am sure, continue to keep everyone on their toes with deployments to Malawi and Kenya already planned for 2019. This all whilst the Bn are well underway in preparing for the new Physical Employment Standards later in the year.
