THE 2ND BATTALION THE MERCIAN REGIMENT
SSgt (SSI) C Williams RAPTC
Iarrived on the Island in Aug 18 after spending two and a half years at the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, which albeit challenging, proved a great chance to learn and grow. I certainly looked
forward to a fresh start with the 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (RIB) in Episkopi Garrison and to working alongside SSgt (SSI) Wood, the Station RAPTCI.
As with all serving RAPTCIs in Units, the implementation of APTS and the new PES testing presents both a challenge and an opportunity. We are very fortunate that there has been a significant amount of funds and effort spent on APTS equipment and the PD facilities within station. SSgt Wood has offered a fantastic welcome and made every endeavour to provide RIB with all the facilities required to implement these vital changes, ensuring that the RIB enjoys 2 beneficial years on Island aiming to improve their PD.

We have successfully commenced the implementation of APTS and the Battalion has adapted to the changes considerably well. This is admittedly due to their diligence and versatility. The Op sites and continued rotation of the Coys will always test the PTP however the HQ RAPTC high-quality ADT complemented with ideas aimed to tackle these challenges have certainly got us moving in the right direction.
Finally, we have a great opportunity to deliver and participate in Sport and AT whilst on Island. There are a number of competitions to enter and some great work across the Island by RAPTCIs. The Battalion is taking full advantage of this and striving to win the illustrious Army Sports Trophy Competition (ASTC)!
This is an outstanding posting both professionally and personally, and quite frankly I don’t want to leave!
