 Overview
When I finally received the notification that I was assigned to 32 Engineer Regiment, I was excited to be reunited with the Sappers. Having previously served 12 years before transferring to the RAPTC I was eager to get back and utilise my new knowledge and skills.
The Way ahead
Although personnel had changed, the diverse and busy role had remained with the Royal Engineers, with future deployments to Falklands and South Sudan to look forward to in 2019. The Army Physical Training System (APTS) was in its infancy within the Regiment and all the personnel were full of questions on the new system and the new Soldier Conditioning Review (SCR). I felt this was an excellent opportunity before April to implement change and get everyone to buy into and look forward to embracing the new system.
Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better (Sydney J. Harris).
Fast forward two months and I can see a difference in my PTI’s, they are educating the Squadron personnel on the new system, selling and explaining reasons behind why and how we achieve our aims. This all stems from staff training, education on the APTS and the science and reasoning behind its implementation. Although there is always room for improvement, I feel myself, the PTI’s and the rest of 32 Engineer Regiment personnel are heading in the right direction for physical development.
Future Events
Marne Barracks are hosting a Physical Employment Standards (PES) training day on 20 March 19. This will ensure all RAPTCIs and PTIs are ready to deliver the PES, Role Fitness Tests (RFTs)

 LIGHT DRAGOONS

After arriving at the Light Dragoons in September 2017, I can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute working with this Regiment so far. Coming from an extremely busy phase 1 training environment at AFC Harrogate, I wondered what my first Field Force Unit was going to bring.
2018 has been relentless with an on-going commitment to OP CABRIT, consequently, B Squadron deployed to Poland for 6 months and A Squadron returned to the unit. Op TRIAS deployed troops to Tunisia from C Squadron with troops from across the unit deploying to Afghanistan on Op TRIAS also. OP TEMPERER is now in full swing with 36 members of the Regiment ready to deploy at a moment’s notice for the foreseeable future. A busy time for the Light Dragoons!
The Commanding Officer conveyed his intent on our first meeting with Level 1 and Level 2 PT being his primary focus and a re-invigoration of the PT programming embraced this intent instantly. This, in conjunction with a Physical Education Development course ensured the unit’s physical development is sailing in the right direction.
and the SCR in accordance with MATT 2 Policy by April 2019. 32 Eng Regt work closely with 5th Regiment Royal Artillery and a good working relationship ensures maximum delivery of both Physical Development and Sport to both Units and the wider Region. In addition, Marne Barracks has a new sports hall that will be opening imminently. An aesthetics uplift in the early stages of 2019 will improve the attraction of the gym facilities too.
Sport
Although each Squadron is deployed around the world on different exercises and Operations, they still have time to conduct Sport. This involves soldiers competing across different levels, ranging from International events to internal Unit competitions.
