The Regiment is also well represented at Badminton, Squash and Volleyball, whilst the X Country team has had a successful season with the female team receiving silverware.
Although most time seems to be spent chained to the desk there are always opportunities to escape the ‘doom and gloom’. Staff training and team building is a must with team ‘footgolf’, ‘cricket’ and a Drayton Manor experience aiding team productivity. I have been involved in the delivery of various sporting competitions, assisted with the Brigade events, become a PES/SCR deliverer and been part of the heavily competitive UK Midlands Cross Country season. I have even had the opportunity to represent RAPTC football at the 2018 reunion and earned myself an RAPTC vest for the Inter Corps X Country Championships.
The introduction of programme THOR/ APTS/ SCR/ PES and planned Gymnasium enhancements mean exciting times are just around the corner at MOD Stafford. Life and the upcoming year promises to be fulfilling with constant improvements inevitabley taking this exceptional facility forward.
30TH SIGNAL REGIMENT
SSgt (SSI) A Brown RAPTC
Having been an ERI for the past 5 years, this is my first solo MBS Article and I have had a very positive start to life at 30th Signal Regt. I took over the reins from SSgt (SSI)
Shawn Pearey who steered the ship extremely well before me. The regiment are blessed with their infrastructure which includes a 25m Swimming Pool, MUGA, 2 x Gym Halls, 2 x squash courts, 1 x Tennis Court, 1 x Boxing Gym,1 x Basketball court and a separate S&C suite. Therefore, I am in a very fortunate and strong position from which to deliver PD.
30th Signal Regt is renowned as an extremely busy operational unit. During my tenure, the 5 Sqn’s have deployed to the Middle East, Germany, Poland, US, Brunei, Cyprus, and Gibraltar. The Regt is also at high readiness with troops on 4, 8 and 12-hour notice to move. To that end, it is sometimes difficult to capture all Sqn’s to deliver the APTS, that said, all personnel from the top down are receptive to the new regime and embracing the change.
With support from the new CO and Regt 2IC we received new PTE to support and enhance delivery of the APTS. The gym space has now changed dramatically with the addition of a specific S&C suite with brand new PTE supported by HQ RC. Improvements to
the swimming pool have also been made and a refreshed outlook on rehabilitation has seen an increase in L1 & L2 PT sessions to enhance the PTP.
The Regt has been very active on the AT side, with expeds in Malta, Norway, Canada and Capel Curig as well as other UK locations. Expeds in France, Germany, Bulgaria and Romania are also planned for 19/20 TY in consultation with the RCMO (AT Guru). In terms of Sport over the last year, the Regt successfully represented in Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, Boxing, Tennis, Badminton, X-Country and Athletics. They have also participated in Festival of Sports, the Female Festival of Sport and the WattBike league event finals held at Lichfield. The Regiment has a proud history of Boxing and SSgt K Evans trained 9 boxers that almost won the prestigious 1 Sig Bde Boxing Competition in Stafford.
In closing I feel very fortunate to be posted to a hardworking, diligent and active unit. They have embraced Programme THOR and the APTS with great pragmatism and are already reaping the benefits of this shift in training culture.
