Here at the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) the turnover of staff has been significant over the last year. Since the last MBS notes were written, all RAPTCIs in the PT Wing have
been replaced. The team to date includes WO1 (SMI) Osborne, WO2 (QMSI) Mark Radcliffe, SSgt (SSI) Craig Morton, SSgt (SSI) Neil Davidson (on resettlement leave) and Sgt (SI) Richie Baird. PT delivery is supported by 35 gym staff which include SIO PTs Mr Malcolm Swinburn and ex RAPTCI Sammy Samson.
ITC Catterick continues to evolve and produce infantry soldiers to the Field Army. Given the advancements in the physical development arena, these changes have been implemented here at ITC, with the PT Wing being at the forefront, ensuring soldiers leave Initial Trade Training having completed the new Role Fitness Tests. The Combat Infantry Course (CIC) has been developed to include the new physical employment standards (PES). With the nature of GCC PES, ITC is the first training establishment to undertake the new testing regime, with the pilot course successfully passing all of the elements of RFT (S), with a notable reduction in injuries along the way. A big thanks must go to WO2 (QMSI) Radcliffe who has worked tirelessly in aligning the new CIC with the APTS and continuously improving the course throughout the year.
As with all training establishments, the phase 1 environment continues to be a positive breeding ground for future RAPTCIs. ITC Catterick is a challenging place, but time is afforded to develop the young AAPTIs. We wish Cpl Douglas, Cpl Sergi, Cpl Wilkins and LSgt Ramsdale the best of luck as they start the journey on RAPTC Training in the coming months.
A team of four individuals from ITC Catterick recently took part in the Cyprus International 4-Day Challenge. The challenge is a 4-day staged running event, covering a distance slightly longer than a marathon with a combination of road and cross country running. The event successfully combines a 6km time trial, 11km
hill race, half marathon and a 10km city run over four days. The team did extremely well; with challenging terrain and hot weather training conditions the team finished in a very respectable 5th position out of 33 teams. The team will now look forward to building upon the success of this year’s event and aim to enter teams in 2019.
