preparation for Apr 16 selection. 1 RHA have steadily fed the RAPTCI with quality instructors over the years and whilst I am here I will strive to do the same.
The Regt is renowned within the Royal Artillery for its sporting prowess and strives to develop all soldiers within the Regt. 1 RHA currently has some great young athletes competing at Corps, Army and GB Levels and in 2016 we got off to a cracking start by organising an inter Bty Boxing competition which was a great success and has prepared the boxers for the RA championships in Apr 16.
Overall, I have had a great rst 6 months with 1 RHA and look forward to the rest of my time here.
And More Battle PT
Another year has own by here in Sunny Tidworth. This year the Fusiliers completed a BATUS package as a Battlegroup and then transitioned into the Lead Armoured Infantry Unit going into 2016.
BATUS for the troops meant a 30 day exercise on the Plain in 30 degree heat wearing body armour and helmets! BATUS for me, meant 9 weeks in Trails End Camp taking AT and enjoying the 30 degree heat in shorts, T shirt and a mountain bike helmet!
The return from Summer Leave saw the Battalion take on OP TEMPERER which meant they were even more committed than usual! Whilst all that was on-going, I had the privilege of being selected to represent the Army at Road Cycling for another season and with that brought the inevitable Cyprus training camps. I even managed to tie in a 2 week Boxing Training camp I took my Bn Boxing team on, with tasty sessions on the bike.

November saw us host our annual ‘Harts Medals’ Inter Coy boxing event which, even if I do say so myself, was an outstanding evening and the boxers all put on a great show. No rest for the wicked though, as that night, I departed for Cyprus again, this time with the Army men’s Road Cycling Team for a 2 week “Winter Training Camp” - Tough at the Top!
Post-Christmas saw us assume the role of Lead Armoured Infantry Unit, which placed pressure on the unit to ensure deployability was 100%. This saw the incarnation of the Gallipoli Platoon, a dedicated Rehab/ Recon and Remedial PT platoon with its own C2 and infrastructure to ensure all the soldiers not on mainstream PT had all the tools and help to get back to ghting tness, quicker.
As I write this, I am preparing to hand over the Garrison SuperGym to my successor as I will be off to 6 RLC in Gutersloh just in time for their move to Dishforth. I wonder how the RLC will like Wattbikes and Burpees?
