Well, where do we start? Coming from a Guards Battalion in London to an RLC Regiment in South Cerney is certainly a change of scenery.
29 Regt RLC had been gapped for 18 months before I arrived in June 14 which is good in one way though certainly has its own challenges. With a limited number of AAPTI’s in the Regt and all scattered around the Sqns, there needed to be some structure to both staff and general PT.
On arrival to the Regt, the PT facilities were average to
say the least, so with lots of emails and calls to Sp Comd (bordered on harassment at times), I managed to start
to secure some funds for new equipment. The Regt agreed that I could have the use of an old store room in order to convert to an S&C suite; this has contributed to the buy in across the Regiment in terms of support.
£125k later, (with a new bespoke RIG) the unit has a brilliant facility with 4 Olympic platforms, 9 Wattbikes, 32 Olympic Bars and 1100 Kg of bumper plates, along with a whole load of other

equipment that compliments the facility and has allowed the Regiment to get moving and lifting.
The Regiment is keen on AT and we have managed to get 62 soldiers through foundation courses since my arrival and have comfortably hit the mandated targets. A two week Regimental MATT camp took place in Jun 15 at Penally Camp in Tenby which was a great chance to get the numbers up and a time for the soldiers to enjoy some real life AT.
Personally, lots of boxing of ciating, Army Motorcycle
Racing and managing the Army race team, which has kept me extremely busy along with day to day mainstream PD administration. The Army Race Team is made up of various cap badges and ranks from R WELSH, RIFLES, RE, REME and of course 1x RAPTCI. Ranks vary from Pte to Major, so managing this bunch can be hard going at times. We did manage to get away to Spain for 4 days in Mar 15 for some testing in the warmer weather in preparation for 2015 racing.
