British Army Warrior Fitness
(BAWF) Competition
With the rise of “Cross Fit” and the odd competition popping up throughout the Army concerns were raised about its governance and assurance. With this in mind set out to plan a similar competition structure that would have a beginning and end state, be safe, encompass all elements of tness and available for all. Thus, 1 year and much head scratching later the British Army Warrior Fitness (BAWF) Competition was born.
The DIN is now released and by the time this goes to print the events will be
well under way. In brief the competition structure is as follows:
Individual units select their teams utilising the speci c exercise range stated in the les linked to the DIN.
Sports regional competitions take place at set dates ran by the regional secretaries throughout May 2016.
The Army nals will be held at the ASPT on 6 July 16 for the top 4 – 5 teams from each of the regional events.
This competition really is for all, it avoids complicated Olympic style lifts but includes everything and more that individuals would expect to nd in their PT programmes. Work out ranges hit such areas as strength and power, aerobic and anaerobic and body resistance exercises, all within 2 or 3 set routines and all very demanding.

ROYAL CENTRE FOR DEFENCE MEDICINE
Assigned to the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine (RCDM) as a newly quali ed RAPTCI, I have been faced with many challenges. Having taken over a gapped post, myself and the newly established J7 Team soon identi ed areas for improvement. I quickly set about developing a manageable action plan that would prioritise and salvage the areas of PD that most required attention. Working within a tri-service environment, I have tried to capture a avour of each Service Command (SC) tness requirement, providing weekly tness testing alongside Army speci c AFT training sessions. Creating and pre-populating quarterly tness testing weeks enables me to fully capture a unique and diverse unit along with its Diaspora, helping me to fully assure

the CoC. Noting a complete lack of remedial training direction, I have written and implemented a remedial training COTM, offering ample opportunity and exibility for the downgraded (DG) and injured personnel within the unit to not only maintain their individual tness levels but to try and assist them with returning to full tness.
Eight months on, Fitness Testing statistics are better than ever. Staff numbers on PT are still on the increase and we now have an AAPTI development program that see’s the unit actively seeking out the next potential All Arms Physical Training Instructor (AAPTI), as well as utilising and developing the current AAPTI staff.
