The Queen’s Royal Lancers (QRL) and 9/12th Royal Lancers amalgamated on Sat 2 May 2015 at Richmond Castle, in the presence of Her Royal Highness the Queen on a very wet day up here in North Yorkshire. The Royal Lancers are now the Lead Armoured Cavalry Regiment within the Armoured Corps. The event was an exceptional day and evening despite the weather.
The newly formed Regiment quickly integrated by carrying out a military skills competition namely ‘Omdurman Shield’ for all Sqns, which comprised of 14 teams including my gym staff. During Contingency, the Regiment were on standby as the Lead Armoured Cavalry Regiment, but still managed to embrace sport where willing to make a name for the new Regiment. The Unit won the UK North festival of Sport by a landslide, which was great preparation for the RAC Hodson’s Horse Sports competition which the unit also won along with the RAC Boxing Championships. The Unit also entered the Inter-Unit Boxing Championships and has so far made their way through to the quarter nals. The highlight from a regimental prospective has to be the
