Introduction

              1. Introduction

              1.1. Application

The GuardII+ Series 4208 Platform is the basis for a complete line of continuous on-line
monitors to detect potential aging problems in rotating machines.
A complete GuardII+ monitor consists of multiple components; the GuardII+ Series 4208
Platform itself, and data acquisition systems for one or more monitoring technologies. Each
technology can monitor a single aspect of a rotating machine; for example, Partial Discharge
(PD) for stator winding insulation deterioration, Rotor Flux for shorted turns of the winding of
cylindrical rotor and salient-pole rotor, Shaft Voltage/Current or Endwinding Vibration. Each
GuardII+ monitor is custom built to the customer’s needs and is capable of monitoring multiple
                     aspects of a machine.
                        The GuardII+ Series 4208 Platform is a third-generation continuous on-line monitor that
provides maintenance professionals with an opportunity to automate their condition-based
maintenance program of rotating machines. The monitor continuously collects and archives
data, which can be used to assess and trend the condition of the machine stator winding
insulation, rotor winding, and shaft. The Archived data can be downloaded locally over a USB
port, or remotely using Ethernet (TCP/IP) network communication. An alert condition will be
raised if the monitored activity is above a user defined threshold.

GuardII+ comes with the Iris Application Manager (IAM) software, which is a Windows™-
based software suite for configuring the monitor, downloading the archived data, and
viewing/analyzing the data. Ethernet connectivity allows personnel in distant offices to define
or change trigger conditions and alert levels for archiving measurements, as well as download
test results for display on a computer.

              1.2. Features

                        • Supports multiple technologies in a single monitor
                        • Provides a voltage-free relay contact to alert the user when measurement results
                            exceed a preset magnitude
                        • Storage for Archived data for each installed technology

                        • Provision for connecting an ambient temperature and humidity sensor
                        • Multiple communications options

                        • Measurements can be downloaded to a computer with IAM software
                        • Built-in Modbus over TCP/IP server and client capability for data interchange with third
                            party software
                                    NOTE:
The GuardII+ Series 4208 Platform is not compatible with original GuardII
data acquisition cards and original GuardII data acquisition cards are not
                                     compatible with GuardII+ monitors.
