benches, with historical inscriptions.
The monument stands exactly on the border of the two cantons, the Canton of Zoug
and the Canton of Zürich as if symbolically uniting them. Now imagine the painting by
Anker – this is exactly what was taking place there in 1529. The year is also marked on
the monument. From the monument if you look straight down, you will see the lake of
Zoug in the distance, after the fields and the forests. And you can hike down to Baar
easier, as you will see the direction. Being in Baar, look around the lovely town, and
either take a train to Zoug or you may continue walking to Zoug – a very lovely town, the
capital of the Canton of Zoug on the bank of the beautiful lake, with a small jet d’eau –
the smaller sister of our Geneva fountain. And after your day full of emotions, you will
take the train to Geneva (via Luzern or Olten).
We are wishing you a very nice and fruitful historical hike to the important peace-maker
monument of Switzerland, a symbol of neutrality and compromise.
