WELCOMING SPEECH
BY DR. VLADIMIR PETROVSKY
UNITED NATIONS UDER-SECRETARY-GENERAL
DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA
AT THE OPENING CEREMONIES OF THE
13
HARVARD WORLD MODEL UNITED NATIONS
“Penta” Hotel, Geneva, Sunday, 26 March 1995
F irst of all, let me express my appreciation to you for giving me an
opportunity to address your club this evening. I am always
encouraged when members of the community take the time and
make an effort to discuss issues of importance. I have been looking forward to
this evening for some time as I was most impressed with the history and
accomplishment of your organization and the breadth of issues and carefull
planning that has clearly gone into structure this years’ effort. Undertakings
such as this one exemplify what the Secretary-General believes is one of the
most important aspects of the United Nations Golden Anniversary: to educate
and empower citizens of the world. This important milestone provides a time
to reflect on the past, take stock of the present and prepare for the future.
