100 Reflections that Crafted Geneva International

I was very privileged to be involved with Mr. Petrovsky’s family in restoring
the personal archives of his tenure in Geneva comprising more than 700
                                  5
documents over 4000 pages , and still further archives remain. In future I am
sure there will be other books on his achievements, but this one focuses on
Geneva International – the concept I and my colleagues continued to develop
for a decade after Mr Petrovsky’s departure through the pages of the staff
          magazine UN Special.
Even now his ideas, such as strong links between the scientific and
diplomatic communities, are still being implemented, and hopefully this
publication will lead to more of his ideas being revisited and implemented in
future. These include his brilliant initiatives of the Bureau of Diplomatic
Services, the Dialogue Forum, or the proposal to have regular Security Council
          meetings in Geneva.
Thanks to his personal efforts and those of his successors, Geneva Interna-
tional’s role has been solidified and strengthened. Today Geneva is recognized
as the world capital of peace, disarmament, diplomacy and negotiations. Geneva’s
potential for security, multilateralism and internationalism is stronger than ever
          and can only grow.
This book was done as my heartfelt and deepest tribute to the person who
was my boss, mentor and teacher, from whom a learnt the subjects, the way of
management and leadership, the person with the enlightened mind, and with
the generous heart, devoted to the high ideals and ideas and devoted to
          people.

                                                      Evelina Rioukhina
