Bringing the Concept to Life
tremendous contribution to efforts for the nuclear non-proliferation and
nuclear disarmament.
Over the next two days, in this model-General Assembly, you will be
debating several resolutions on issues of global importance. There are a few
things I hope that you will keep in mind as you do so.
Remember that the dialogue is just as important as the conclusion, because
as long as there is free and transparent dialogue in a neutral environment, the
discussions will almost always be fruitful. Remember also that in the General
Assembly, no one State is greater than another, each has a single and equal
vote. In the General Assembly, strength is found not in military or economic
might, but in mutual understanding. It is through negotiation, coalition-
building and partnership that States can rally behind an issue and bring it
to resolution. Therefore, as you debate these all-important issues, I ask you
to remember that dialogue, cooperation and “diplomatic skills” are a means to
an end, but not an end in themselves.
In conclusion, I wish you all a very fruitful debate. I hope that this year's
exercise, as the past years' have, underlines the importance of dialogue and
cooperation, for these are the vehicles for the realization of all your common
goals.
Thank you for your attention.
