Bringing the Concept to Life

the press room to provide them with free access to the Internet and some on-
line information services. The UN Office at Geneva is actively working with the
Internet and disseminating UN documents through its Web page.

The Internet is a perfect tool for those journalists who are devoted to the
promotion of the emergence of a new democratic global society with the
diversity of cultures, views and opinions. This is also one of the main objectives
               of the United Nations.

The UN Office at Geneva is open to furthering a partnership with the mass
media by building closer links between the international community and the
local Swiss community. A good example of respected journalism is the “Geneva
News”. The only English-language publication of its kind in Geneva, it covers a
wide-range of issues, events in the Geneva international community, interna-
tional news, life in Switzerland, etc.

I would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the Editor-
in-Chief of the “Geneva News”, Mrs. Padma DeMello, who has contributed
tremendously to bridge-building between the Geneva-based international
community and the local population as well as the world business community.

I strongly believe that Geneva International, which has always played a
pioneering role in multilateralism will set a good example of close partnership
of multilateral diplomacy and mass media for the interest of people, their
peaceful relations and well-being in the new emerging global society.
