Peer Review Team Background Information
Dan Cassidy, Chief Administrative Officer, Missouri Farm Bureau
Dan Cassidy was appointed as Chief Administrative Officer of the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation and Affiliated Companies in 2003. In addition to his administrative duties, Dan coordinates Farm Bureau’s legislative and political action programs and serves as a lobbyist for the farm organization at the state and national levels. Dan has legislative experience from previous state and national positions, and he served as the Director of National Legislative Programs for the Missouri Farm Bureau from 1996 - 2002.
Prior to joining Farm Bureau, Dan held the positions of Deputy Director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture; Legislative Assistant for Agriculture with U. S. Senator Christopher “Kit” Bond; and Program Director for the University of Missouri Food and Agriculture Policy Research Institute (FAPRI).
Dan is a native of New Mexico and a graduate of New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. He holds a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics and a Ph.D. in Natural Resource Policy from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dan and his wife Linda live on a farm in Callaway County and have three daughters and the world’s most beautiful granddaughter.
Sam Kieffer, Administrative Secretary/Treasurer and Chief Administrative Officer Pennsylvania Farm Bureau
Sam grew up on a grain and beef farm in Pennsylvania. Joining the PFB team in 2005, he first worked as a regional director, collaborating with volunteer members on local policy issues and organization development. After that, he became PFB’s National Governmental Relations Director. In this role, he served as the organization’s principal federal lobbyist in Washington and managed PFB’s grassroots policy development process and political education programs. In 2013, he became manager of the Government Affairs & Communications Division, leading a 13-member team responsible for Farm Bureau advocacy and communications work.
Kieffer is a 12-year veteran of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard where he served as a logistics officer. Kieffer earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Dickinson College, a master’s degree in Public Administration from Widener University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Delaware Valley University.
In his current role, he also oversees operations within PFB Members’ Service Corporation, the Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation, and the organization’s PAC. He and his wife, Margaret, have two children.
