Getting Around
Mexico City
Peter: Thanks for meeting us at the airport, Javier. It’s very kind of you.
Javier: No problem, Peter. I’m just happy that you and Kate are back in Mexico City.
How was your flight?
Kate: It was great, thanks, Javier. The only problem was that we wanted to sit together,
but at first the airline put the children by themselves. It took a long time to find
a solution, but in the end, we sat next to each other. Anyway, it’s so good to be
here with you again.
Peter: The city looks just like it did when we visited you and Alicia a few years ago, but
I don’t remember all these bikes. Where did they come from?
Javier: Well, bikes are quite popular here now. People use them to commute to work.
Peter: Hmm, I used to ride my bike to work, but then I had an accident and hurt
myself quite badly.
Javier: I remember . . . These bikes are mostly pretty basic. I’m sure yours went a lot
faster.
Kate: Yes, it did. I was glad when he stopped riding.
Javier: Well, people here won’t leave their bikes at home any time soon. Bikes make
driving more difficult, but they are good for the environment.
Not everyone in Mexico City thinks
riding bikes in the city is a good
idea.
