                   3.5  More Non-Count Nouns

                                                Categories of Non-Count Nouns
                    1. Some non-count nouns name a          clothing (pants, sweaters, shoes)
                      category of related items. The related   fruit (apples, oranges, bananas)
                      items are often count nouns.          furniture (tables, chairs, desks)
                                                            homework (essays, exercises, assignments)
                                                            jewelry (necklaces, rings, bracelets)
                                                            money (nickels, dimes, quarters)
                                                            mail (letters, packages, postcards)
                                                            weather (hurricanes, storms, tornadoes)
                    2. Some non-count nouns name things     air, cheese, coffee, fish, flour, hair, ice, juice, meat,
                      that do not have separate parts or    milk, oil, rice, skin, soup, sugar, tea, water, wind
                      pieces that can be counted.
                    3. Some non-count nouns are abstract    advice, beauty, energy, experience, fun, happiness,
                      nouns. An abstract noun names an      health, help, honesty, intelligence, knowledge, love,
                      idea, a feeling, or a quality.        nature, work
                    4. The names of subjects of study are   biology, chemistry, geometry, history, math, science
                      usually non-count nouns.




                     5  Read the sentences. Circle the non-count nouns. Then write the number of the correct
                         category above each non-count noun. (1 = a category of related items, 2 = something that
                         does not have separate parts, 3 = an abstract noun, 4 = a subject of study).
