knowledge as I could about the TR4 I am currently restoring. I
was excited to see 17 TR4s and 2 TR4A?s and to meet their
owners who were gracious in answering my questions and
offering advice on my restoration.
Day 1 The convention kicked into gear with a Funkhana, a
short, creative obstacle event. The timed course consistied of
stops for a ring toss, parallel parking, and more, including a
stop for your favorite shot of liquor. The morning events also
included a driving tour to a local winery.
The afternoon events featured h the first Tech session,
beginning wiwth a seminar on LED lights presented by
LiteZupp Industries. There were also Autocross Tech
Inspections ongoing throughout the afternoon in preparation
for the Autocross event on Wednesday, in addition to an
orientation and Tech check for the upcoming
Time-Speed-Distance Rally.
Day 2 began with a drive to Galena for breakfast, made in
groups so as not to overwhelm the venue. The next tech session
was an informative presentation on brakes and suspensions
with Ted Schumacher, owner of TS Imports. Ted is considered
to be a Triumph technical expert.
The morning concluded with the TSD Rally Driver's and
Navigatos meeting. The afternoon began with the TSD rally
itself along with a Poker Run and the third Tech session on
Ignition and Carb Tuning for Zenith Carburetors.
Day 3 It was time for my favorite event, the Autocross,
otherwise defined as mostly men and women of a certain age
having the time of their lives. They were running the heck out of
their cars even though they planned to show them the the next
day. They spent the afternoon cleaning and shining the cars
they just raced for the show the next day.
Day 4 The final day, Thursday, was the car show. There were
two classes for each model: The Concours d?elegance and
Participants' Choice Show . I lost count of the entries at 182
cars.
It was a gathering of beautifully maintained and pristine vintage
British cars and in my opinion any of the participants could
have won.
Since I was facing a nine -hour drive home I left at lunch. I
considered my trip to have been a great success; all my
questions were answered, and I shared in a week with
wonderful, like-minded people, the caretakers of beautiful
vintage cars.
I'll l be looking forward to next year?s convention, September
28- October 1st to be held in Dillard Georgia, just east of
Chattanooga. Save the date as this could be a TR Roadtrip for
our NBCC. ( Photos continued on page 18)
