Hagerty Driver's Club Talks
Trees, Cars, and Carbon
Emissions (What's this about? )
Doing well by doing good, that's what Hagerty, proponent of classic cars, gasoline engines,
safe driving, and protection of the planet, had in mind when it introduced its new program
called ECO, the Enthusiast Carbon Offset program.
Eco is a voluntary program intended to help motorists who want to reduce the carbon
footprint of their collectible cars do it in an easy and transparent way. The announcement
of the program came in advance of the Celebration of Arbor Day that takes place each year
in the United States in April.
Hagerty is in the saving driving business and keeping car culture vibrant for years to come
That also means saving and protecting the many beautiful landscapes that drivers prize
as they pass through them. There is no ignoring, however, that classic cars produce
carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide is a major contributor , so science tells us, to global
warming as well as to everyday pollution. While the amount of junk a classic car puts in
the atmosphere is small compared to that of the entire transportation industry, Hagerty
believes that every driver of a classic car is the sort of person that wants to do his or her
part to make sure that the places we love to see and drive through are still there for the
next generation, just as he or she maintains a classic car with the idea of passing it on to
its next caretaker.
