The Drive t o Clarksville cont inued from p. 7
Before the drive got under way, Tom Perkins, who
i
lives near the meeting place at Jm Warren Park,
rolled up in his Morgan, out for a jaunt to visit the
local Farmers' Market, to say good-morning.
The combination of a Cars and Coffee event and
higher temperatures with no cloud cover might
have been the reason for the smaller turnout but
the drive itself was flawlessly led by Tom. He
made sure that the entire group arrived as a unit at
the lunch location at the Liberty Grill that overlooks
a marina on the Cumberland River. While patio
seating was available, everyone agreed that it was
time for the windblown and the sun swept
convertible drivers to get some welcome relief in
an air conditioned, indoor, space.
Out in the parking lot, however, Tom was happy to
open the bonnet of the E-Type so that its inner
workings could be examined, explained, and
admired by everyone who had an interest, before
he finally shut the lid on the mini -car show and
came in for lunch.
Top right: Make mine a
modern Mini
Countryman, enjoyed
by David and Abby
Weilmunster.
Middle: Clark and Pam
Childress were all in
for top down , red hot,
classic MG touring. We never did get a final count for Clarksville
but it looked like we were close to 20 drivers
and navigators, including a rare sighting of
member Al Gloddeck .
