                                         HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2018-2019
1 In the fall semester, students participated in the Introduction to PSW Dual Credit course through Fanshawe College. Students discovered what a PSW position would be like and had the opportunity to try out the job. The course took place at the Blue Water Rest Home. Students highlighted the benefit of knowledge acquired through a traditional classroom setting and the experience gained through hands-on activities at the rest home. Students indicated the course gave them the opportunity to work in a rest home and see if being a PSW is something they would enjoy as a career.
During the winter semester, students participated in the Plumbing and HVAC Dual Credit 2 program run at the Conestoga College Ingersoll Skills (PowerLine) Training Centre.
Students learned the theory and demonstrated the hands-on skills necessary to be successful in skilled trades. In plumbing, students completed projects using black iron,
copper, and plastic pipe. Students roughed in and installed bathroom fixtures. In HVAC, students learned about furnace operations, ductwork, and airflow. Students worked with air-conditioning soft copper and completed a tool-box project with sheet metal.
Our students also participated in a Small Engine and Equipment Maintenance Dual 3 Credit program offered at the Fanshawe College Motive Power facility. Students learned the basics of 2-stroke gas engines, and four-stroke gas and diesel engines. Students engaged in hands-on mechanical training to service and repair small engines and related equipment. Students were provided a 2-stroke gas engine which they tuned, then tore down, reassembled and tuned again to optimal performance. Students were introduced to the college Motive Power facilities and equipment related to skilled trade careers in Agriculture Equipment, Automotive, Heavy Equipment, and
Truck & Coach service, and Auto Body & Collision Damage repair.
