Day 29 - Impossible Possibilities
Scripture:
And he said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
Luke 18:27
Reflection:
Jesus used parables to communicate with His disciples. A parable is a simple
story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. In this teaching, Jesus answered
the question posed by a certain ruler, “what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” The
answer seemed simple enough; Jesus referenced 5 of the 10 Commandments.
The ruler identified that he had kept the commandments from his youth. So, Jesus
replied, “sell all that you have and give the proceeds to the poor; and come,
follow me.” The ruler couldn’t comprehend giving all that he had to the poor for
he was very rich. Then Jesus said, “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye
of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” Wow! How in
the world is a camel going to get through the eye of a needle? Such a small space
and such an enormous animal. This is an impossibility!
Jesus was foreshadowing the purpose of him leaving His father and coming to
earth in the form of a man. It is truly an impossibility. But Jesus was sent to
make the impossible possible. He was sent to pay the ultimate price for sin so
that we all could be saved. He was going to shed His blood so that we could be
with Him in all eternity without the condemnation of sin and without having to
give up anything but our will. He loved us that much.
The song says, “Just as I am without one plea; but that thy blood was shed for
me. And bids me now to come to thee; Oh, Lamb of God, I come, I come.” This
is basically what Jesus was asking the certain ruler to do; just come and follow
Him. And to the ruler, it seemed impossible. So, thanks be to God that He always
causes us to triumph! No longer is it an impossibility for those of us who love
the Lord. We can be with Him now and forever by just making up our minds to
follow Him. He has made the impossible possible.
Prayer:
Dear Father God, thank You for Your Life; for dying on the cross so that I might
be saved; so that I might have eternal life; so that the idea of a camel passing
through the eye of a needle wouldn’t even be necessary. Thank You for how
You reveal Your Word to us. As we continue to walk after you, cause us to
remember the price that was paid for our freedom. Cause us to recall how you
made all of our impossibilities possible. Thank You Lord for the victory. In
Jesus’ name, Amen.
