3 Duties and responsibilities of Student \Yelfare Office
Each institution should have a Student Welfare Ofhce which should
function under the direction of a Senior Dean/Junior Dean/Student
Welfare Officer. The duties of this Offrce may be:
a. To arrange for a congenial living environment in the campus
including hostels for the students
b. To monitor day to day essential support necessary for the academic
and co-curricular activities of students
c. To arrange for special attention to the weaker and needy sections
ofstudents
d. To design, plan and execute programmes for holistic development
of the students
e. To chart student progression and timely intervention
f. To enable students to participate effectively in the management of
hostels and in organization ofthe student related activities
g. To advise student council as and when needed
h. To stay in touch with the guardians as and when required
i. To plan for maintenance ofstudent's discipline in the institution
Conclusion
The Student's Welfare Committee shall be the umbrella committee
overseeing all matters of the student's welfare in the institution. Student
Council, a part of the Welfare Committee, is a conglomerate of student,s
clubs and societies at the institution. The Committee will be a part ofthe
institutional administrative and academic structure. unlike an independent
union. The Committee will be devoted to the educational interests and
welfare ofthe students while following strict guidelines established by the
instituhon.
The Student Welfare Committee (and Policy) should aim to accomplish
the following goals for improving the quality ofthe leamers' life in higher
education institutions :
1. To aid in designing, development and implementation of adequate
strategies related to student welfare activities.
