What is a Serving of Fruits
and Vegetables?
All varieties of fruits and vegetables,
whether fresh, frozen, canned, dried, or juice,
count toward your 5-a-day tally. And a
serving is smaller than most people think.
One serving is:
One medium fruit such as an apple,
orange, or banana.
½ cup cut up fruit
¼ cup dried fruit
¾ cup or 6 ounces fruit or vegetable
juice.
½ cup raw or cooked vegetables
1 cup raw
leafy
vegetables
½ cup cooked
beans or peas
Plans for Your
Tax Refund
One way you can look at dividing up your tax
return is the 30-40-30 Plan. Using this plan, you
take 30% of your refund and pay down debt.
You use 40% of your refund toward current
needs (and this might include some discretionary
spending). Then you use the final 30% toward
savings, whether that’s to build up your
emergency or for longer-term savings. If you
have at least $500-$1000 in your emergency
fund you can consider other savings goals, such
as using a portion of your refund to buy bonds or
allocating more money to your retirement or
college savings account.
Having a plan in place before you get your
refund will put you in control of your finances
and help set you up for future success.
