PUBLICATIONS AND ELECTRONIC
MEDIA COMMITTEE REPORT
The Publications and Electronic Media Committee (PEMC) Co-Chairs and Vice Chair‘s, established three
goals to help assist state Editors and state Presidents with their Publications and Social Media needs.
The 2019 PEMC goals and objectives:
• To update the Editors Manual
• To create an Editors Resource on the AMT website
• To offer an interactive Editor’s workshop at the national meeting
During the PEMC committee meeting in Chicago, IL on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, we discussed our goals and
asked the committee for their input on how to achieve these goals and objectives. We asked questions
like: did they know where to find the Editor’s manual? Was the manual helpful? How can we improve it?
We asked them what tools would be helpful under an Editor’s resource tab, and what they wanted in an
Editor’s workshop? The conversation, and their input played a vital role in achieving these goals.
1. Through the hard-work and dedication of PEMC Co-Chair Kathy Sutton, who led the charge on
getting the Editor’s manual updated, we held numerous teleconferencing calls to revise, draft,
and edit an updated Editor’s manual. We wanted the manual to include current publication
guidelines, and a Social Media platform, so that state societies could have a stronger social media
presence. With the guidance of PEMC Oversight Councillor Kaye Tschop, the PEMC team was
able to achieve this goal.
2. The PEMC committee’s input helped in creating a resource specifically for Editor’s to get help and
guidance when working on their publication. They wanted a quick reference for questions they
may have. Therefore, we requested an Editor’s tab be placed on the AMT website. The Editor’s
tab would include tools like the correct AMT Logo to be used in the publications. The Editor’s
Manual, the Editor’s disclaimer and previous Editor’s workshop Power-point presentations are
available under this tab for quick, easy access to common publication questions.
3. We wanted the Editor’s workshop to be interactive, therefore we handed out publication review
forms and asked the Editors to review a publication. Through a Power-point presentation we
presented a few common publication dilemmas and asked the group how they would score
them. Dilemmas like: an article on someone’s career path (what “type” of article would this be
considered?) Or if the President is also the Editor and only submits one article, does that
constitute one point or two, and the article is less than 200 words? Does it count at all? So, we
offered those type of questions and had lots of feedback, as it opened up much needed dialogue
and direction for Editors when creating their publications. This objective was met.
