Camp Colley Foundation 2019 Annual Report
20 years ago Camp Colley was acquired by the City of Phoenix under the leadership of James Colley, Parks, Recreation & Libraries Director with the city. Jim's vision was to create a space in Arizona's northern remote wilderness giving underserved Phoenix children access to the beauty and wonder of nature for positive learning and growth. Recognizing the educational, inspirational and healing power of meaningful time spent outdoors, Camp Colley Foundation, celebrating its 15th year in 2019, has funded scholarships for over 4,000 Phoenix children to attend Camp Colley free of charge.
Nearly 25% of children ages 6-17 in greater Phoenix live in poverty. These children are excluded from nearly all higher-cost opportunities like a traditional summer camp experience, widening the gap of acquired knowledge and skills necessary for them to academically and socially thrive. Withholding critical knowledge and skill development opportunities like those that Camp Colley provides perpetuates many challenges these children face, limiting the likelihood they grow to become successful adult contributors to society.
