The Quiet Epidemic - Family Caregiver Burnout
The quiet epidemic can't be kept quiet anymore.
It is killing family caregivers. They are dying literally and guratively.
Over 65 million family caregivers, according to the National Alliance
for Caregiving, are caring for incapacitated or aged loved ones. All
too many of them feel like the woman that posted the following on
a caregiver Facebook group page:
Studies show that the number one obstacle family caregivers must
overcome is caregiver burnout. Almost 40 percent of caregivers
report feeling stressed in their role, according to AARP’s report,
Caregiving in the U.S. 2015. The Cleveland Clinic de nes caregiver
burnout as “a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion
that may be accompanied by a change in attitude—from positive
and caring to negative and unconcerned.”
Family caregiver’s are suffering.
Many caregivers are stressed to the breaking point. Burnout has
