 Digital
New equipment featuring cutting edge technology has been purchased for surgical theatres at Leeds Children’s Hospital, combining surgical efficiencies and digital innovation for an improved patient experience.

The new equipment - known as a ‘stack’ - combines several pieces of surgical equipment that allows surgeons to perform complex procedures on children in need of treatment.
The new equipment combines the functions of two theatre stacks into just one, meaning a surgical team can perform an endoscopy and a laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) using just one stack. The digital enhancements of the kit means continuity can be maintained across procedures, with images displayed to surgeons on a high resolution screen.
This increases the efficiency of diagnosis, enabling surgeons to detect earlier potentially life-altering diseases and conditions in young patients.
The new stacks will be used in theatres for general surgery cases, and for specialities including colorectal, gastroenterology, Upper and lower GI, and - depending on the specialty - may treat patients from across the wider region, and even the country as a whole.
